SMOKEY ROBINSON - SMOKEY URGES KANYE TO 'CHILL OUT'

Soul man SMOKEY ROBINSON has sent a stern message to KANYE WEST - "relax".The Motown great is disappointed West rages about missing out on Grammys and MTV music honours at big awards shows - because the rapper should be grateful he's in showbusiness.
Robinson admits he hasn't always been a winner, but he has learned to accept losing with grace - and he urges West to do the same.

In a pre-Grammy Awards chat with Los Angeles DJ Valentine, the Tears of A Clown singer said, "Showbusiness is not that kind of business. Showbusiness is up and down and in and out and over and under and you have to be prepared for that if you're gonna be a part of it.

"Kanye's a great young artist, so just relax... Even to be nominated is a blessing."
Rapper West has made a name for himself as a sore loser, threatening to boycott awards shows that don't honour him and taking to the stage to protest others' wins over him.

M.I.A. Says Baby Was 'Getting His Swagga On' During Grammys
Pregnant MC also discusses her 'Slumdog Millionaire' Oscar nomination on the red carpet.

Before a very pregnant M.I.A. graced the stage at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 8), she told us her baby was poised to be a hip-hop star. That makes sense, because he's already hit the stage with Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I. and Lil Wayne (not to mention his MC mom) for their "Swagga Like Us" performance.

"He's getting ready for Jay-Z and Lil Wayne. So far, so good," she said on the Grammy red carpet. "I just don't know what labor is. It's my first baby. So I'm not walking around going, 'Maybe this is it.' The baby is just moving around, getting his swagga on."

On top of her performance, the mom-to-be was up for Record of the Year for her hit "Paper Planes" but lost out to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. She still has a chance to win at the Oscars for her contribution to the "Slumdog Millionaire" soundtrack.

Blink-182 Make Reunion Official on Grammy Stage

“Isn’t it great to see the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder back together again,” blink-182’s Mark Hoppus joked as his band — together again — took the stage at the Grammy Awards to present the trophy for Best Rock Album to Coldplay. “We used to play music together, and we decided to play music together once again,” added Travis Barker. The bottom line: “Blink-182 is back.”

A statement released just after their Grammy appearance reads, “Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy.”

The band leave things with the words “Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready…”

The band has been officially on hiatus since February 2005; since then Tom DeLonge has gone on to form Angels & Airwaves, while Hoppus and Barker put together +44. In November 2008, after the jet crash that nearly killed Barker, Hoppus blogged that the threesome had resumed communication. “In the midst of everything else that has happened lately, Tom, Travis, and I have all spoken together,” he wrote. “First through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out for a few hours. … We’re just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking.” The band’s next album would be their first since 2003’s blink-182.

Mumbai police seeks FBI's help on VoIP proof in 26/11

As Mumbai police is finalising its chargesheet in the 26/11 terror strike cases, the crime branch has approached the FBI for help in attaching the proof of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services being used by terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba with their masters in port-city of Karachi in Pakistan.

While Mumbai's crime branch has maintained a studied silence over the filing of chargesheet, sources in investigating agencies said the US investigating agency's help had been sought in sharing the proofs like call details made through VoIP and from the Satellite phone.

Though the case is water-tight but these kind of proofs would further nail Pakistan's claims that the conspiracy of 26/11 was not hatched in that country, senior officials in the investigation agency said, adding the Islamabad's claims that the conspiracy was hatched in Bangladesh was absolutely wrong.

India and the United States share a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) which came into effect on December three, 2005.

Portuguese Man-of-War

Portuguese Man-of-War Profile

Anyone unfamiliar with the biology of the venomous Portuguese man-of-war would likely mistake it for a jellyfish. Not only is it not a jellyfish, it's not even an "it," but a "they." The Portuguese man-of-war is a siphonophore, an animal made up of a colony of organisms working together.

The man-of-war comprises four separate polyps. It gets its name from the uppermost polyp, a gas-filled bladder, or pneumatophore, which sits above the water and somewhat resembles an old warship at full sail. Man-of-wars are also known as bluebottles for the purple-blue color of their pneumatophores.

The tentacles are the man-of-war's second organism. These long, thin tendrils can extend 165 feet (50 meters) in length below the surface, although 30 feet (10 meters) is more the average. They are covered in venom-filled nematocysts used to paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures. For humans, a man-of-war sting is excruciatingly painful, but rarely deadly. But beware—even dead man-of-wars washed up on shore can deliver a sting.

Muscles in the tentacles draw prey up to a polyp containing the gastrozooids or digestive organisms. A fourth polyp contains the reproductive organisms.

Man-of-wars are found, sometimes in groups of 1,000 or more, floating in warm waters throughout the world's oceans. They have no independent means of propulsion and either drift on the currents or catch the wind with their pneumatophores. To avoid threats on the surface, they can deflate their air bags and briefly submerge.

Jennifer Figge Swims Across Atlantic, First Woman

Jennifer Figge pressed her toes into the Caribbean sand, exhilarated and exhausted as she touched land this week for the first time in almost a month.

Reaching a beach in Trinidad, she became the first woman on record to swim across the Atlantic Ocean — a dream she'd had since the early 1960s, when a stormy trans-Atlantic flight got her thinking she could don a life vest and swim the rest of the way if needed.

The 56-year-old left the Cape Verde Islands off Africa's western coast on Jan. 12, battling waves of up to 30 feet (9 meters) and strong winds.

David Higdon, a friend of Figge who kept in touch with her via satellite phone, said she had originally planned to swim to the Bahamas, but inclement weather forced her to veer 1,000 miles (1,610 kms) off course to Trinidad, where she arrived on Feb. 5.

Figge plans to continue her odyssey, swimming from Trinidad to the British Virgin Islands, where she expects to arrive in late February. The crew won't compute the total distance Figge swam until after she completes the journey, Higdon said.

Then it's home to Aspen, Colo. — where she trained for months in an outdoor pool amid snowy blizzards — to reunite with her Alaskan Malamute.

"My dog doesn't know where I am," she told The Associated Press on Saturday by phone. "It's time for me to get back home to Hank."

The dog swirled in her thoughts, as did family and friends, as Figge stroked through the chilly Atlantic waters escorted by a sailboat. She saw a pod of pilot whales, several turtles, dozens of dolphins, plenty of Portuguese man-of-war — but no sharks.

"I was never scared," Figge said. "Looking back, I wouldn't have it any other way. I can always swim in a pool."

Her journey comes a decade after French swimmer Benoit Lecomte made the first known solo trans-Atlantic swim, covering nearly 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers) from Massachusetts to France in 73 days. No woman on record has made the crossing.

Figge woke most days around 7 a.m., eating pasta and baked potatoes while she and the crew assessed the weather. Her longest stint in the water was about eight hours, and her shortest was 21 minutes. Crew members would throw bottles of energy drinks as she swam; if the seas were too rough, divers would deliver them in person. At night she ate meat, fish and peanut butter, replenishing the estimated 8,000 calories she burned a day.

In this undated photo released by David Higdon, friend of swimmer Jennifer Figge, she's shown posing for a picture after her arrival to Chacachacare Island, in Trinidad, Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009. Figge, of Aspen, Colorado, is the first woman to swim across the Atlantic Ocean, after leaving the Cape Verde Islands off Africa on Jan. 12, swimming roughly 2,100 miles (3,380 kilometers) to arrive in Trinidad. She plans to swim from Trinidad to the British Virgin Islands in the last leg of her journey. (AP Photo)
Figge wore a red cap and wet suit, with her only good-luck charm underneath: an old, red shirt to guard against chafing, signed by friends, relatives and her father, who recently died.

The other cherished possession she kept onboard was a picture of Gertrude Ederle, an American who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel.

"We have a few things in common," Figge said. "She wore a red hat and she was of German descent. We both talk to the sea, and neither one of us wanted to get out."

Figge arrived on Trinidad's Chacachacare Island, an abandoned leper colony, at 5:20 p.m. She plans to leave Trinidad on Monday night. During this brief respite, she has avoided the hotel pool and nearby ocean, opting instead for the treadmill.

Title: Wolf Like Me lyrics

Lyrics to Wolf Like Me :
Say say my playmate
wont you lay hands on me
mirror my malady
transfer my tragedy

Got a curse i cannot lift
shines when the sunset shifts
when the moon is round and full
gotta bust that box gotta gut that fish

My mind's aflame

We could jet in a stolen car
but i bet we wouldnt get too far
before the transformation takes
and bloodlust tanks and
crave gets slaked

My mind has changed
my bodys frame but god i like it
my hearts aflame
my bodys strained but god i like it

My mind has changed
my bodys frame but god i like it
my hearts aflame
my bodys strained but god i like it

Charge me your day rate
ill turn you out in kind
when the moon is round and full
gonna teach you tricks that'll blow your
mongrel mind
baby doll i recognize
you're a hideous thing inside
if ever there were a lucky kind it's
you you you you

I know its strange another way to get to know you
you'll never know unless we go so let me show you
i know its strange another way to get to know you
we've got till noon here comes the moon
so let it show you
show you now

Dream me oh dreamer
down to the floor
open my hands and let them
weave onto yours

Feel me, completer
down to my core
open my heart and let it
bleed onto yours

Feeding on fever
down all fours
show you what all that
howl is for

Hey hey my playmate
let me lay waste to thee
burned down their hanging trees
it's hot here hot here hot here hot here

Got a curse we cannot lift
shines when the sunshine shifts
there's a cure comes with a kiss
the bite that binds the gift that gives

now that we got gone for good
writhing under your riding hood
tell your gra'ma and your mama too
it's true
we're howling forever

TV On The Radio biography

The core members are Tunde Adebimpe (vocals/loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars/keyboards/loops), Kyp Malone (vocals/guitars/loops) along with Jaleel Bunton (drums) and Gerard Smith (bass).

Other contributors include Katrina Ford of the band Celebration (vocals), Martin Perna (saxophones, flute) of Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and Nick Zinner (guitar) of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

The first album from TV on the Radio (initially just founding members Adebimpe and Sitek) was the self-released OK Calculator (the title being a reference to Radiohead's seminal album OK Computer), the majority of which is wildly different from their later sound, with elements of electronica, hip hop and turntablism. Later they were joined by Kyp Malone and released the Young Liars EP in 2003 to great critical acclaim. This was followed by their full-length debut, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes which earned the band the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize. They released a second EP, New Health Rock, later in 2004. Their most recent album, Return to Cookie Mountain, leaked in early 2006 and garnered pre-release praise from such outlets as Pitchfork Media[1] before its official release in July overseas. U.S. and Canadian audiences had to wait until September for an official release, on major label Interscope.

Founding member David Andrew Sitek has produced records with such bands as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Celebration, and Liars. Currently building his own studio, Sitek is in the process of producing the first LP for Dragons of Zynth, and working with them on a collaboration with Massive Attack for an upcoming New Gothic/soul album. He has also recently mixed the debut album by The Longcut.

Tunde Adebimpe has also worked with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, producing and animating their Pin video.

TV on the Radio is one of the favorite active bands of rock icon David Bowie, who also contributes backing vocals on the track "Province" from the latest effort, Return to Cookie Mountain. The album was released July 6, 2006 worldwide (except the United States and Canada) by 4AD. The official North American release date was September 12, 2006 by Interscope Records.[2] Bowie had been following TV on the Radio since 2003, when Sitek sold Bowie's doorman a painting and passed along some of the band's recordings. After surprising the group with an adulatory phone call, Bowie kept in touch with the band members, advising them on everything from how to deal with record executives to what to do with "Dry Drunk Emperor," a Bush-bashing single that they recorded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. (They released the track online for free, per Bowie's suggestion.) "They have a strong link with the great body of American poetry, especially Beat poetry," Bowie says. "The sampling, multitracking and mashing identifies them as the spawn of a techno-industrial society. I love the new record. I play it about three times a week, which is, like, saturation level for me."

India are looking to make a rare 5-0 ODI series whitewash on the Sri Lankan team in the last match of the series.

Sri Lanka have never been whitewashed at home and coupled with the fact that a victory here tomorrow, India will not be complacent here because a win here would take India even closer to the top slot in the ODI ranking,

India are probably going to rest Yuvraj Singh and Praveen Kumar and bring in Sachin Tendulkar and L Balaji.

Sri Lanka could play Upul Tharanga his first match of the series with opener Sanath Jayasuriya being rested. Also Mendis could take M Muralitharan’s place after he reached his world record in the last match.

The pitch is expected to be more same like the last two games, unlike the second game, even though this is a day game.

As Ishant Sharma put it, “it would be better to bowl first as conditions will be helpful. The track becomes flat as the match progresses, to even 300 becomes an easy target’.

Terry Wayne Weeks ( b. 23rd December 1963, Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A.)

The Temptations were formed out of two groups, the Primes (whose line up included Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams and Kell Osborne) and the Distants (who in 1959 recorded the single 'Come On' for the Northern imprint).

The Primettes the primettes

The Primes manager had even put together a girl version of the group, the Primettes (three of the Primettes, namely, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard were later to form the Supremes).

After the Primes and the Distants had merged, they became the Elgins, a name that was later to change to the Temptations in 1961, at the request of Berry Gordy, who took the group to his Motown Records imprint.

Under the new mantle, they recorded three sides for the Miracle label (a Motown subsidiary), one of which was under the name of the Pirates.

They later moved to the Gordy imprint where they made the charts in 1962 with the song 'Dream Come True'.

Gordy then teamed up the Temptations with Smokey Robinson, a liaison that was to prove highly fruitful.

In 1963, Eldridge Bryant left the group (or was fired after physically attacking Paul Williams) and David Ruffin was recruited to the ranks, bringing to the music scene, what is considered by many to be, the 'classic' Temptations line-up.

David's coarser delivery proved to be the perfect foil for Eddie Kendricks' softer falsetto style of singing.

Between 1963 and 1965 the group recorded several chart hits, kicking off proceedings with 'The Way You Do The Things You Do'.

1965 saw the group hitting the number one spot with the song 'My Girl', with David Ruffin taking the lead.

'It's Growing', 'Since I Lost My Baby', 'My Girl' and 'Get Ready' followed on with varying levels of success into the following year.

Temptations Sing SmokeyTemptations Christmas Card

A parent album was released entitled 'Temptations Sing Smokey', an album considered by many pundits to be the finest album of that decade.

By the end of 1966, Smokey took a back seat as the groups Producer, with Norman Whitfield taking the helm.

Norman was to be employed in this role for the following decade, teaming up with the singer / songwriter Barrett Strong.

'Ain't To Proud To Beg' was the initial release under the new tutelage.

'Beauty Is Only Skin Deep' made the Top Three, followed by 'I'm Losing You' and 'You're My Everything'.

The Temptations at the apollo

The group also charted at the top spot with the classic song 'I Wish It Would Rain', the groups sixth number one tune.

By this time, David Ruffin had taken on the role of singing lead, which led to requests that he had an individual credit for his efforts.

This was refused and, after failing to appear at a 1968 live performance, the other four Temptations fired him and David left the line-up.

The lead singer in the group the Contours, Dennis Edwards, was then drafted into the ranks.

Norman Whitfield, following a need to take the group in a new direction, moved the groups sound into an area that reflected the burgeoning psychedelic scene of the late Sixties.

'Cloud Nine' reflected this political shift with it's obvious drug connotations.

The Civil Rights movement of the time also became reflected in Norman and Barrett Strongs writings, typified in the song 'Ball Of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)'.

The issues effecting teenagers were addressed by the song 'Runaway Child, Running Wild'.

Personal issues were also addressed in the form of 'I Can't Get Next To You', a song that hit the number one spot.

Even the Vietnam War came under Norman's scrutiny in the guise of 'Stop The War Now'.

whitfield & strong

Norman Whitfield set a musical styling that was way ahead of it's time and still influences the songwriters of today.

The groups new direction left Eddie Kendricks feeling uncomfortable with his vocal stylings being suited more to a ballad format.

He recorded some sides with the Supremes during the latter part of that decade.

Eddie did receive the lead role on the number one hit 'Just My Imagination', a beautiful song, however, he was to leave the group in 1971 fto pursue a solo career.

Richard Owens was then drafted in to replace Eddie, who was in turn substituted for Damon Harris the same year.

Paul Williams then departed the group, replaced by another member of the Distants, Richard Street.

In 1971, the group had a hit with 'Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)'.

The following year, the group scored another number one hit with the song 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone', a song that perfectly embodies the production techniques of Norman Whitfield.

The song was later to win a Grammy Award.

Paul Williams, tragically, commited suicide in 1973 by shooting himself, following years of depression and drug abuse.

Norman and Barrett's liaison ended the same year.

The groups fortunes waned somewhat, although there were some excellent releases, including 'Masterpiece', The Plastic Man' and 'Let Your Hair Down' in 1973, followed by 'Happy People' two years later.

In 1975, Norman Whitfield left Motown, Damon Harris had left the line-up, replaced by Glenn Leonard.

1976, saw Dennis Edwards leaving, Louis Price replacing him, and the group leaving Motown for the Atlantic imprint after the group recorded 1976's 'The Temptations Do the Temptations', their final album for Motown.

The Temptations the temptations 1977

At Atlantic the group had a dabble with the disco market, releasing the LP's 'Bare Back' and 'Hear to Tempt You'.

This change of labels brought the group little chart success resulting in a return to the Motown stable.

Dennis Edwards rejoined the ranks and in 1980 the group released the album 'Power'.

In 1982, they teamed up with Rick James, recording the album 'Reunion', featuring the dancer 'Standing On The Top'.

This album also saw a return to the fold for Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin, however, this arrangement was to be shortlived.

After the departure of the pair, Ron Tyson replaced Glenn Leonard, and Ali 'Ollie' Woodson took over the role of lead vocalist from Dennis Edwards.

In 1984, the group charted again with the song 'Treat Her Like A Lady', their most successful song in a decade.

The parent album produced several singles including the title song 'Truly For You'.

Tragedy struck in 1991 when David Ruffin died on the 1st of June 1991, after overdosing on cocaine.

On the 5th of October 1992, Eddie Kendricks died at the age of 52 of lung cancer.

In 1995, Melvin Franklin died after suffering a brain seizure, leaving Otis Williams (who published his autobiography in 1988) as the sole surviving founder member from the original line-up.

The Temptations continued to record and perform, achieving success in 1998 with their excellent outing 'Phoenix Rising' (featuring the band utilising a sample from 'My Girl'), on the excellent song 'Stay'.

A new, Grammy winning, album arrived in the year 2000, entitled 'Ear-resistable' (on Motown), which was well received.

The line-up was by now, Otis Williams, Harry McGilberry Jnr. (later replaced by Joe Herndon, former bass singer for Pookie Hudson & The Spaniels), Terry Wayne Weeks, Barrington Scott Henderson and Ron Tyson.

In 2001, the Temptations returned to the recording studio recording the album 'Awesome'.

In 2003, G.C. Cameron joined the groups ranks, and in 2004 the group released the album 'Legacy'.

Harry McGilberry passed away on the 3rd of April 2006.

The Temptations are, probably, the most enduring, hardworking and successful group in Soul Music.

Finding Nemo : The Disney on Ice show - Exclusive Report

Since many years each winter we have in France a new Disney on Ice show, and this year the show is themed on "Finding Nemo". Recently the show was in the town of Lyon, and Maureen, Disney and more regular contributor and damn' good young photographer was there!

She came back with a beautiful - and colorful - pictorial report, and it's real eye candy! As you will see below, the show looks a bit like the Animal Kingdom Nemo musical...but on ice! You all know Nemo's story, so comments are not needed, just look, double click on each to see the pictures in big size, and enjoy!

The last show in France was January 31st and i don't know if the show will go in others European countries, but if it comes to your town no need to say that i strongly recommand you to go see it!

Many thanks to Maureen for these great pictures that were not that easy to shoot, specially with ice skaters constantly moving! If you'd like to have some of them in wallpaper size, have a look at Maureen's Flickr page.
